Weapon platforms all have mechanical upgrades which can only be used on certain weapons. Projectile and certain energy weapons also come in various sizes and strengths.
Energy weapon class is not determined by bore size, but by energy output. Most modern energy weapons have outputs between the 1 GW (Gigawat) a 1 PW (Petawat) range.
Projectile weapons are classified by their bore size and velocity. Modern projectile weapon bore sizes range from the 60mm to 10m range. Muzzle velocities range from the 3,000fps to the 400,000fps range.
Electromagnetic accelerators are classified with a mixed system. They are measured using all three criteria. They range from the 2GW to 2TW range in energy consumption, 40mm to 6m range in bore size, and 200,000fps to 900,000fps range in muzzle velocity.
Missiles are classified by their payload’s explosive power and range. Explosive powers generally range from the 100T (Ton) to the 2TT (Teraton) range.
